I've been fortunate in that my running has been relatively injury free for the last two years but I've also been cautious with my approach.  I look at the 30/30 game as risky but I think it's a calculated risk.  That said, I've been playing for over two weeks and I'm actually quite surprised that I'm still running.  I guess I just expected a problem to arise that would force me to stop playing the game.

I think fear has kept my competitive side from taking over and the little voice in my head that wants to run farther and faster has been relatively quiet.  There was one instance where I had to increase the length of a run in order to keep my buddy Steve from getting ahead but I think he and I are in the same boat so neither of us wants to up the game too much.

So far everything seems manageable although my seasonal tendonitis is flaring up a bit.  I've had this issue pop up in the winter for the last two years and the doc says that I should just keep going because running doesn't seem to be the cause nor does it seem to make it worse.  I'm starting to think cold weather is the source and I've been keeping a log for future reference.

Sometimes I feel like I have the best intentions but never get around to implementing whatever I've decided will be beneficial to my training.  For example:  I purchased swim bands in an effort to strengthen my shoulders but I have yet to mount them in order to use them.

This is the third year of serious training and I feel like I need to get off my ass and start implementing those measures in order to remain injury free.  I've always been a fan of icing through various methods but one of my favorites for running is rolling frozen cans of baked beans with my feet.  It not only reduces inflammation but it also helps regenerate the tissue on the underside of the foot (so I've read).  I normally wait for a hint of pain but with the increased running frequency, I've been icing regularly.

I've also started to incorporate calf raises into my routine and I've built my own platform using some extra 2x4's left over from our recent construction project.  I found a YouTube Video where a gigantic dude shows you the proper way of performing the exercise.  (I think his calf is larger than my entire body.)  I'm slowly incorporating the calf raises because I'm paranoid of anything new.  I've started with two sets of 10 after my runs and in a week or so, I'll add two more sets of 10 later in the day -- probably when I do core.

And finally, I've been wearing my newly acquired DeSoto compression socks.

[Knock Knock]

ME: Who is it?

UPS GUY: UPS Delivery.

UPS Truck

[Door Opens]

UPS GUY: What the hell!?!?

ME: What?

UPS GUY: What the hell are you wearing?

ME: Oh!  Compression socks.

UPS GUY: No dude, not the socks.

ME: You mean the skirt?

Red Skirt

UPS GUY: Yeah, the skirt!

UPS GUY: Hey, nice calves.

ME: Uh... thanks... I guess.

[Awkward Pause]

ME: Honey!  Get him!

HONEY: IcanhazUPSdriver?  NOM NOM NOM!
