My wife forwarded an email to me yesterday from our local gym. They send out a monthly newsletter with the latest news, upcoming events, or some tidbit of information related to health and fitness. To be honest, I get the newsletter but when it arrives, I normally just hit the delete button because I only care about whether the pool is going to be warm or cold and they don't publish that information in the newsletter. In their message, I noticed they were trying to tell me something about nutrition and I normally roll my eyes because I know everything about nutrition and how could they possibly know something I don't. At least that’s how I feel when I receive messages from 'them' and of course that is the wrong attitude. ![]() [If I had a list of rules to follow, somewhere near the top would be a rule that stated: When I think I know everything -- I've stopped learning.] As I mentioned, the message was forwarded to me by my wife who also knows quite a bit about health and nutrition. With that in mind, I realized she sent this to me for a reason so I decided to read it. In the email was a question: "Which is better 'whole grain' or 'multi grain'?" As I read the question, my heart sank because I knew where this was going. I was immediately reminded of when I looked into the word "Organic" and realized there was a bit of marketing foul play going on. I continued to read on and simultaneously popped another tab on the browser in order to wiki various terms. My heart sank even further as I realized I'd been tricked by marketing people once again. Wiki - Is multigrain or whole wheat bread better for you? I've been known to scour the labels of various products for what I would consider to be undesirable ingredients but I just assumed that "whole wheat" was legit. How could it not be? It's brown; it doesn't get any more natural than that right? And let's not forget about multi grain with all of those seeds on top. Bastards got me! Live and learn I guess.
