Over the last couple of years, I've realized the benefits of completing my shorter cycling workouts inside instead of outside.
By the time I get out of the neighborhood with all of its stop signs and streetlights, I've lost 10-15 minutes. Returning along the same route, I am once again subjected to the same obstacles which equal in total about 20-30 minutes of wasted riding.

New Years Navy SEAL Challenge
Here's the deal -- I stumbled across an article that discussed the Navy SEAL Fitness test and I thought... "Oh, I can do that." But after thinking about it, I realized I can't do the combat swim stroke... because I don't know how and I'm fairly certain I can't do 100 pushups in two minutes. Other than that, I think I'm good to go.

Eleven Pounds
In six weeks and two days, I lost 11 pounds.
You can browse my photos to see that I don't normally carry all that much extra weight but I felt like I really needed to lean out for a serious attempt at being a marathon runner.
On my journey, I'd like to tell you I discovered some new diet and the pounds just melted away but I'd be lying. Nope, no miracle diet, I used good old fashioned starvation along with a heavy dose of will power.
2011 California International Marathon
Race day was no different than any other and my strategy was fairly simple. Get to mile 13, maintain or lift the effort to mile 20 and punch it from 20 to the finish.
